The Data Acquisition System MBS (Multi Branch System) is in operation since more than 20 years and has been continually developed during this time. It is deployed in most of the experiments at GSI and many other laboratories worldwide. Furthermore it serves as the base for the data acquisition systems (DAQ) of the future NUSTAR (Nuclear Structure, Astrophysics and Reactions) experiments at FAIR/GSI.
The MBS comprises small and simple DAQ systems up to large hierarcically structured DAQ setups. It supports various possibilities for sub-system data synchronization via trigger buses and time stamps. In addition it supports a plethora of commercial and customized hardware.
Dr. Nikolaus Kurz graduated from University of Heidelberg in 1985 and got his PhD at the UA2 Experiment at CERN and University of Heidelberg in 1990. Up to now, he has worked with the Data Acquisition System MBS (Multi Branch System) in Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung (GSI) in Darmstadt for sixteen years.
